Why korean players needs to go in military sevices? Does it require you to go or not?

Some facts about military service in Korea: - Only men have the duty, and this is one of the most actively debated topics in gender conflict. - The current conscription rate(90~95%) is higher than that of Nazi Germany(<80%) - At the age of 20 or so, male are subject to "health test", where they are tested on their mental health, eyesight, etc., and are divided into 5+ grades(1~5+). 1~3 are subject to military service, 4 is subject to public service, and 5 onwards are exempt. Faker is probably grade 4(high school dropout), so he is subject to public service. - The soldiers do get paid, but not even half the minimum wage. Not even sure if it's quarter that. - Length of duty varies on the types of the military: as far as I'm concerned(can be wrong as I was discharged 2 years ago and couldn't care less about it since), army=marine=18 months, navy=20 months, and airforce=21 months. - There are some pathways to avoid the typical service(untypical ones may include commuting agents, which is randomly chosen among grade 2~3 that satisfy some conditions like crime record, has a child etc.) apart from receiving grade 4 or 5+ 1. have a foreign citizenship/residency, but this can affect your length of stay in Korea. 2. Be a doctor/lawyer etc.: you can work as an officer that is believed to be relatively more free than most soldiers 3. Be a Technical Research Personnel, which is a fancy name for postgraduate students, but I believe you have to pass some tests etc. to become one, which is very difficult. 4. Win a (only gold in some comps)medal in some selected international competitions eg. Son Heung Min became exempt from the duty by winning the gold medal in Asian Games. I believe there is another Asian Games coming up soon but not quite sure if esports is included in the exemption list.
